This webinar explores fouling trends, and looks at the concepts of critical, threshold, and sustainable flux as design tools to minimize fouling through process design. A worked example will be presented for the calculation of sustainable flux from pilot data, and examples will be provided for calculated values of sustainable flux from case studies. Techniques for characterising fouling on plants will be described including permeability trend analysis and the concept of target permeability will be introduced. Case studies of the analysis of permeability trends will be presented from operational data for different applications. The content can be summarized as follows: • Fouling phenomena and fouling control procedures • Critical, threshold and sustainable flux • Permeability monitoring and control and target permeability • Case studies for surface water and seawater RO pre-treatment applications
Dr Graeme K Pearce holds a degree in chemistry and a doctorate in chemical engineering from the University of Oxford, and is the Principal at his own consulting firm, Membrane Consultancy Associates (MCA) founded in 2005. MCA specializes in advice on membrane filtration technology and provides consulting services covering a range of issues including performance review, problem solving, acting as an expert witness, market analysis, strategy review, and technical advice for investors. Graeme has 40 years’ experience in the membrane field having undertaken technology and strategic development roles at BP, Kalsep, and Hydranautics prior to consulting. He is well known in the field of water and membranes through publications including numerous papers and book contributions.
