The first webinar in the MBR series will start by discussing drivers and advantages for MBR compared to conventional treatment as well as considering barriers to uptake. The webinar goes on to examine the historical perspective of the commercialization of MBR and consider the membrane materials and the terms and definitions used in MBR process design. The format and configuration used in MBR will then be compared, highlighting the pros and cons for the different formats as a function of application type and flowrate. The webinar concludes with a discussion of fouling, cleaning, and aeration requirements of the different options. The content can be summarized as follows: • Background, drivers, advantages, barriers to uptake and markets • Terms and definitions • Membranes, fouling, process design and key design parameters • Format, configuration, and system components
